Learn the many steps of Brazil's most popular dance form, samba, from its roots in Salvador Bahia to its African influences and its celebrated role in Rio De Janeiro’s world-famous Carnival. At this interactive workshop, instructor Quênia Ribeiro of Cumbe Dance will explore various forms of samba from Rio De Janeiro and Bahia, including samba no pé, miudinho, samba reggae, and samba Afro, all accompanied by American samba band Os Clavelitos. Following a thorough warm-up, participants will be introduced to a selection of Afro-Brazilian movements originating from Angola, Congo, Benin, and Nigeria. Beginners and samba pros at all levels of experience are invited to join us for a full-body introduction to dance styles from south of the equator!
